VAITHEESWARAN KOIL 

The Vaitheeswaran Koil is situated at the Northern Banks of the river Kaveri in the direction of interior Tamil Nadu, in Nagapattinam district. The village, along with its sacred temple, is located 27 km away from Chidambaram located 235 kilometers away from Chennai and 16 km away from Mayiladuthurai. The principal deity of this shrine is Lord Shiva who is revered by the name of Sri Vaitheeswaran. The temple is well-known for its Vaitheeswaran Koil the nadi jothidam (predictions based on inscriptions in manuscripts or palm leaves). It is among the most fascinating connections to Astrology, in addition to the connection to Mars. Gods from Hindu Mythology are depicted in diverse styles. For instance, in the Vaitheeswaran Koil Temple, the god can be described as Sri Vaitheeswara (“Vaidya” refers to doctor) and is known in the form of the “God of Healing”. Vaitheeswara is a type of Shiva. It is also the venue for many grand celebrations each year. One of the most grand ones are the annual Brahmotsavam. The biggest celebrations are held on the occasion of Shivaratri, too. The temple is more than 2000 years old.
நாகப்பட்டினம் மாவட்டத்தில் தமிழகத்தின் உள்பகுதியில் காவிரி ஆற்றின் வடகரையில் வைத்தீஸ்வரன் கோயில் அமைந்துள்ளது. இந்த கிராமம், அதன் புனிதமான கோவிலுடன், சென்னையிலிருந்து 235 கிலோமீட்டர் தொலைவிலும், மயிலாடுதுறையிலிருந்து 16 கிலோமீட்டர் தொலைவிலும் சிதம்பரத்திலிருந்து 27 கிமீ தொலைவில் அமைந்துள்ளது. இத்தலத்தின் முதன்மைக் கடவுள் ஸ்ரீ வைத்தீஸ்வரன் என்ற பெயரால் போற்றப்படும் சிவபெருமான் ஆவார். இந்த ஆலயம் அதன் வைத்தீஸ்வரன் கோவிலின் நாடி ஜோதிடத்திற்காக நன்கு அறியப்பட்டதாகும். செவ்வாய் கிரகத்துடனான தொடர்பைத் தவிர, ஜோதிடத்திற்கான மிகவும் கவர்ச்சிகரமான இணைப்புகளில் இதுவும் ஒன்றாகும். இந்து புராணங்களில் உள்ள கடவுள்கள் பல்வேறு வடிவங்களில் சித்தரிக்கப்படுகின்றன. உதாரணமாக, வைத்தீஸ்வரன் கோயில் கோயிலில், கடவுளை ஸ்ரீ வைத்தீஸ்வரர் (“வைத்யா” என்பது மருத்துவரைக் குறிக்கிறது) மற்றும் “குணப்படுத்தும் கடவுள்” வடிவத்தில் அறியப்படுகிறது. வைத்தீஸ்வரர் என்பது ஒரு வகை சிவன். ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் பல பிரமாண்டமான கொண்டாட்டங்களுக்கான இடமாகவும் இது விளங்குகிறது. வருடாந்த பிரம்மோத்ஸவம் மிகவும் பிரமாண்டமான ஒன்றாகும். சிவராத்திரி அன்றும் மிகப்பெரிய கொண்டாட்டங்கள் நடத்தப்படுகின்றன. இக்கோயில் 2000 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு மேல் பழமையானது.
